Dr. Shanthan Reddy’s path into dentistry was shaped by a question that most dentists never formally address: why are children afraid of the dental chair, and what can be done about it? His answer was to study the psychology of childhood alongside his clinical training — earning a postgraduate degree in Child Psychology and Psychotherapy that placed him at the intersection of mental health and dental medicine.

This dual expertise is not a side note. It fundamentally changes how he practices. Where another dentist might see an uncooperative child, Dr. Shanthan sees a child communicating fear through behaviour — and responds with techniques drawn from a curriculum designed specifically for that situation.

His Dr. A.K. Munshi National Award, received in 2011, recognised his research contribution to paediatric dentistry at a national level. His observership at Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney — one of the premier paediatric dental centres in the Asia-Pacific region — gave him direct exposure to the standards of care that he has since brought back to Gachibowli.

In the years since founding Toothway Dental, Dr. Shanthan has treated tens of thousands of children — including those with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, ADHD and extreme dental anxiety — using a combination of clinical skill, psychological understanding and Nitrous Oxide sedation that makes treatment genuinely possible where other clinics have turned families away.

Dr. Deepika Reddy’s specialisation in periodontics and implantology reflects a conviction that healthy gums are the foundation of everything else in dentistry.
