A Dedicated Space Designed for Children

At Toothway Dental in Gachibowli, children’s dentistry is not an afterthought. We have a dedicated paediatric wing — a separate, child-designed space where the decor, the equipment and the appointment flow are all calibrated to make young patients feel safe, curious and comfortable.

Our Nitrous Oxide sedation facility means no child has to endure treatment through distress. Safe, fast-acting and wearing off within minutes, laughing gas gives children and parents alike the reassurance that comfort is built into every appointment.

Why Parents in Gachibowli Choose Toothway

  • A dentist who understands children psychologically — Dr. Shanthan’s MSc is a postgraduate degree in the psychological management of children, not a certificate course.
  • Nitrous Oxide sedation as standard — available whenever it helps, not just as a last resort.
  • No referrals for complex cases — infant care, sedation, hospital dentistry, special needs, restorative and orthodontic referrals are all handled in-house.

Your Child’s First Visit

The first visit is designed around one goal: making your child feel safe. There are no drills, no injections and no surprises. Dr. Shanthan introduces himself warmly, shows your child the tools in a non-threatening way, and conducts a gentle examination. For very young or anxious children, the first appointment may simply be a ‘get-to-know-you’ visit. Parents are welcome to stay throughout, and you receive a clear, jargon-free report and plan.

Paediatric Dentistry FAQs

At what age should my child first visit the dentist?
When your child’s first tooth appears — usually between 6 and 12 months — and by their first birthday at the latest. Early visits let Dr. Shanthan monitor tooth eruption, advise on feeding habits, and help your child build a positive relationship with dental care from the start.
What is Nitrous Oxide sedation and is it safe for children?
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) is a safe, mild sedative inhaled through a small mask during treatment. It reduces anxiety, keeps the child calm, and wears off completely within minutes so they return to normal activities the same day. It is internationally approved for children, and Dr. Shanthan is an expert in its use.
My child is terrified of the dentist — how do you handle this?
Dr. Shanthan holds an MSc in Child Psychology and Psychotherapy. He uses tell-show-do, distraction therapy and Nitrous Oxide sedation for anxious children, in a dedicated paediatric wing designed to feel warm and welcoming — nothing like a standard dental environment.
Do you treat children with special needs?
Yes. Toothway has a dedicated Special Needs Dentistry service for children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and ADHD. Dr. Shanthan’s MSc specifically covers the management of children with these conditions, making Toothway one of very few clinics in Hyderabad genuinely equipped for this.
What is Silver Diamine Fluoride and why is it used for children?
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a non-invasive, no-drill treatment that stops tooth decay immediately without drilling or injections — ideal for very young children, anxious patients and multiple cavities. It is applied in seconds as part of our preventive approach.
Does my child need fluoride treatment?
Professional fluoride is recommended at every 6-month check-up for most children. It strengthens developing enamel and reduces cavity risk, and is especially beneficial for cavity-prone children. It is painless and takes a few minutes; Dr. Shanthan advises the schedule for your child.
When should my child start orthodontic assessment?
From 7 to 10 years of age — even if treatment is not yet needed. Early assessment identifies developing issues while the jaw is still growing. Treatment typically begins between 10 and 14. Ask at your child’s next check-up.
What is a Zirconia crown and why is it better than silver for children?
Zirconia crowns are tooth-coloured, high-strength ceramic crowns for badly decayed baby teeth. Unlike stainless steel, they match natural tooth colour with no dark metal visible, and are stronger than composite fillings. Toothway uses them as standard in paediatric restorative care.
