Preventive Care
Preventive care begins at home with routine oral hygiene. Parents should start preventive care from the eruption of the first tooth in their kids. Preventative care is necessary for both primary and permanent teeth.
Our motive in Toothway Dental is to provide preventive measures and prevent the onset of caries, deleterious oral habits, and alignment issues.
What is an Oral Examination?
The dentist evaluates the teeth and adjacent tooth structures using a mouth mirror and probe. The probe helps to identify the defects or cavitated pits in the tooth. The routine oral examination helps to monitor the oral disease and manage the condition. A healthy oral environment boosts the self-confidence of your child and makes them feel fresh.
What is the Purpose of a Dental X-ray in my Child?
X-rays are a simple diagnostic procedure used to check common dental issues like damaged enamel, cavities, or alignment issues. The dentist decides the treatment depending on the caries level.
Advanced digital radiography at Tootway Dental helps in evaluating dental trauma or injury and craniofacial development. The exposure is minimal in digital radiography.
Why does my Child Require Sealant as a Prophylactic Measure?
The molars with deep pits and grooves are more prone to cavity formation and are challenging to clean. Primary teeth are more vulnerable to soft caries. Dental sealant, a self-cleansable resin material is an essential measure to reduce the risk of cavities. The dentist applies the thin material over the chewing tooth surface. It sets as a tooth-coloured filling material inside the grooves and pits. It lasts for a few years, and there is a need for reapplication after a few months, if required.
Can Fluorides and Other Agents Remineralise the Teeth?
The acids from bacteria cause cavities by rapid demineralisation of the tooth.
The dentist uses a topical fluoride application to prevent tooth damage. It helps to maintain the pH of the tooth and acts against the bacteria. Fluoride reapplication is necessary 2 to 4 times a year.
There are many advancemnts in other agents like CPP-ACP which remineralise the enamel and dentin and strengthens the teeth with no side-effects.
What is the Importance of Teeth Cleaning?
The plaque along the gum line and the tooth surface is removed in the teeth cleaning procedure. A single sitting is enough to scrape the bacteria and debris accumulation in the teeth. Tooth cleaning reduces the risk of soft caries and gum disease. Cleaning is a non-invasive procedure and takes only a few minutes. It reduces the risk of receding gums and bleeding gums.
How do Eating Habits Influence Oral Health?
- Chewing food on both sides establishes a good jaw-muscle relationship. Proper oral muscle usage helps maintain the ideal jaw position and prevents teeth alignment issues.
- Feed meals to your child in a shorter time without distraction. It encourages proper munching and prevents food stagnation in between the teeth.
