Is Silver Diamine Fluoride Safe for Your Child?
Silver diamine fluoride is a safe therapeutic procedure in children for treating cavities. The fluoride acts against caries-inducing bacterial activities. It is a minimally invasive procedure and is used as an alternative for other filling techniques, when its extremely difficult for a very young child to cooperate for the treaments. It remineralises the enamel, increases the enamel resistance and prevents future acid attacks of bacteria.
Why are Fillings Necessary for Your Child?
In children, the cavities spread more easily than in adults. So, there is a chance of developing tiny black holes in the decayed tooth portion. The damaged tooth can be repaired and restored using fillings. It is usually noticed during routine dental visits. The cavities affect the smooth surface of teeth and grooves present on the upper surface of the tooth. If left untreated, the cavities increase in size, causing pain and infections. The effective treatment is to strengthen the damaged tooth using restorative techniques. These fillings last for a long duration and help in chewing food.
What are the Purposes of Pulp Therapy?
The pulp is considered the vital nerve tissue. The cavities spread from enamel to the pulp and cause infection. It also damages the pulp and induces pain. An X-ray is taken to determine the extent of caries.
The indirect pulp capping is preferred if caries remain close to the pulp but have not injured it. The dentist treats the affected dentin by placing a medicament. This procedure retains the remaining dentin and strengthens the tooth.
The infected pulp present in the crown is removed by a procedure called a pulpotomy. The remaining pulp is coated with a therapeutic agent to prevent bacterial growth and provide a soothing effect for the remaining vital pulp tissue.
A pulpectomy is preferred for cleaning the infected pulp tissue due to severe decay or trauma. It is performed by drilling the cavities to remove the pulp from the crown and root using dental instruments. Then the dentist fills the root with medicaments and gives a permanent restoration after a few days. This resorbable filling material prevents premature loss of a primary tooth.
Why Stainless steel is a Valuable Restoration for Your Child?
The walls of the primary molar are broken down due to excessive damage. The stainless steel crowns are preferred for replacing the function of a severely decayed tooth, fractured or chipped tooth, and for tooth treated with pulpectomy or pulpotomy. It covers the molars and protects them from further damage. It is a durable technique and falls out naturally during the exfoliation period. Depending on your child’s need, the crowns are available as pre-contoured or pretrimmed forms.
Why are Zirconia Crowns Preferred the Most?
The biocompatible Zirconia crowns blend with your child’s teeth and give an aesthetic appearance. They are made up of monolithic ceramic material. It is metal-free and resistant to dental caries and plaque accumulation. There is less chance of discolouration and chipping with Zirconia crowns. The dentist will prepare your child’s tooth to receive Zirconia crowns. After selecting an appropriate pre-made crown, the dentist will cement it to the tooth using resin cement. It does not require a dental impression, and the child will have a comfortable experience.
Does your child Require Extraction?
A paediatric dentist will try to save the tooth with protective measures. But in rare scenarios, the severely damaged tooth requires extraction. Because the decayed milk tooth spreads down the infection to a permanent tooth. We use laughing gas to make the child comfortable and pain-free during extraction.
What is the Role of a Space Maintainer?
The early loss of a primary tooth due to caries or premature exfoliation dislocates the erupting permanent tooth.
- The space maintainers prevent the movement of molars.
- It holds the place for an erupting permanent tooth.
- It prevents crowding or malalignment.
